Introducing Revision 3

We are proud to introduce revision 3 of the PiFinder! This new version of the PiFinder is lighter, stronger and faster than our previous model and features a new lower price. To enable scaling to service a larger number of orders and make the PiFinder more available generally, we’ve moved to a partially machine assembled design. Full design files are available for the v3 PiFinder, but it’s not feasible to build by hand.

We will continue to support the DIY v2 PiFinder, and even offer updates to what we are calling the v2.5, for the folks in the community who want a truly unique PiFinder that they build themselves.

Along with the great new hardware improvements, we've completely re-written the user-interface of the PiFinder to make it easier to learn, smoother to use and basically add more joy at the eyepiece. This new software version runs universally across all PiFinders!

Larger Keypad, Fully Enclosed Design

Wider spacing on the buttons make this PiFinder easier to use with gloves, even without! The fully enclosed case is more robust structurally and helps to make the PiFinder even more dark-site friendly!

We’re offering easier conversion from left to right and a new straight-through option to help support a wider variety of scopes

Smaller, Lighter and Faster camera

The new PiFinder v3 camera and lens weigh significantly less, helping to cut the overall weight on the PiFinder by 20%. PiFinders without an internal battery are now lighter than a Telrad!

On top of a reduced size and weight, the new camera is more sensitive, cutting exposure times and allowing up to 20 plate solves per second for a smoother celestial navigation experience.

Easier to Use

The PiFinder user interface has been re-thought from the ground up. All features are now available via the scrolling menu and the button usage has been unified and streamlined.

We’ve increased the font size in many places and generally made the PiFinder an even smother observing experience. Faster sorting, better filtering and more object information at your fingertips.

Along with an easier to learn menu system, we’ve added radial menu shortcuts to allow easier access to common functions along with a context sensitive help system. The best computerize telescope pointing system is now even better!

Full units now start at $485 and kits range from $15 to $395.
